of shell form raised on three scroll feet, the hinged cover mounted possibly later with a cast lion rampant holding an inscribed shield, the interior divided into six compartments

Condition

Repaired at back near hinge, hinge re-positioned or replaced, the emblem sword(?) that the lion holds is incomplete, front rim repaired, the finial possibly slightly later

Catalogue Note

The maker's mark is listed by Rosenberg no. 1128, but is not identified. A silver-gilt monstrance is listed by him in the Martinkirche Bamberg. The shield is engraved: "Holy Society of Benevolent Deeds in the holy community of Bamberg, may their Rock and Redeemer keep them, in the year 1783."
