Catalogue Note

Megillah (Scroll), the tenth tractate in the order Mo‘ed, is devoted to the laws of liturgical readings from the Bible, particularly the public reading of the Esther scroll on the holiday of Purim. Other topics covered include the qualifications of the reader, details of how an Esther scroll must be written, and the sacred status of the synagogue and its appurtenances. The tractate also includes an extensive aggadic section practically constituting a complete midrash to the Book of Esther.
