The inscription on the obverse reads: "The shield of warriors, the shield of Saul" [I Sam. 1:21]. "You shall keep my covenant" [Gen. 17:9]. "I am a shield to you; your reward shall be very great" [Gen. 15:1]. The inscription on the reverse reads: "This is a gift from me, Yihya al-Qafih, to my dear friend, the emissary Rabbi Ezekiel Saul Rofe, may God keep and sustain him."
