Condition

Overall very good condition. This chair was commissioned for the Birza Residence and is presented en suite with lot 182. The painted surfaces with scattered minor scuffs, discolorations, dents, light wear and surface soiling consistent with age and gentle use. There appear to be three layers of paint: the first grey-turquoise (which was possibly a base layer primer), the second a deep green, and third the present grey-white. The white layer with the appropriate signs of age from the period, and it presents with some minor losses concentrated to the edges consistent with age and gentle use. The two earlier paint layers are visible where paint loss has occurred. The paint with some scattered minor cracks, including at the construction seams, along the boards of the seat, and around one wood burl on the backrest (visible in the catalogue illustration) resulting from the natural aging process of the wood. A very fine example of the form with historic commission provenance
