Condition

Overall very good condition. The oak surfaces throughout appear to retain their original rich dark color and finish, with a light overcoat that was applied at some point in the history of the piece. The wood surfaces throughout with scattered, very minor surface scratches, abrasions, and light edge wear consistent with age and gentle use. The brass tacks with some expected light wear. The vestibule beneath the table top has been lined with linen (visible in the open spaces between the carved fretwork) after the catalogue photography, which is faithful to the original presentation of the table in the period and gives the table a more finished appearance. A highly complex and functional design outfitted with two drawers, one on each side, and two leaves on each side of the top, that can be raised and supported with decorative brackets that extend beneath the top. One of only two known examples of this exceedingly rare model, displaying all of the idiosyncratic character and complex fretwork and carving that defines Rohlfs’ finest work.
