  • Width 5 3/4  in., 14.6 cm
of gui form, the rounded sides supported on a splayed foot and set with a pair of upright everted handles, the body carved in relief with dissolved taotie masks against an incised leiwen ground, the domed cover carved with openwork lotus scroll beneath a band of lappets and a 'mythical beast' knop, wood stand (3)

Condition

The vessel with an approx 2 cm polished down chip to rim. The cover with a minute chip to the stem on the figural knop. Both with expected wear to the surface and scattered nicks to edges and rims. The cloudy inclusion nicely incorporated into the carving of both the vessel and cover. Please note that this lot includes a stand, frame or other component made from a type of Chinese hardwood, which, if exported, will require a CITES permit to leave the United States.
