Description

  • Porcelain, Rosewood stand
  • Height 22 1/4  in., 56.5 cm
of hexagonal section, sturdily potted with the facetted baluster body rising from a splayed foot to a waisted neck and an everted rim, flanked by a pair of elephant-head handles, covered with an vibrant purplish-red glaze accentuated with vertical streaks of lavender and violet, thinning to a mushroom tone at the rim and edges, the base applied with a mottled brown glaze, wood stand (2)

Provenance

Christie's New York, 14th-15th September 2009, lot 397.

Condition

The base has been drilled and filled with a resin (the resin is applied liberally to the base and interior of the foot). There are a few small areas of over-painting around the foot and near the rim (presumably to conceal glaze flakes) and overspray applied to the surrounding areas. There are minor firing tears to the base and foot. Please note that this lot includes a stand, frame or other component made from a type of Chinese hardwood, which, if exported, will require a CITES permit to leave the United States.
