heavily cast with a compressed globular body rising to a stepped neck, supported on three stout cabriole legs issuing from heads of mythical beasts, flanked by a pair of tall S-shaped handles issuing from the shoulder, decorated in low-relief around the neck with a band of taotie masks against a leiwen ground, the body wrapped in a border of cicada blades

Condition

The impressively large censer is in overall good condition with the exception of several small dents to the band just below the rim, one small area of touch-up under the rim which was part of the making, and also several small areas of touch-up to the surface covering casting flaws, consistent with age and usage. Overall with nice attractive patina.
