Description

  • 44 cm, 17 3/8  in.
the lobed hexafoil top supported on a pierced waist and cusped apron extending onto six cabriole scroll legs, the top detailed in polychrome lacquer with a pheasant perched on gnarled leafy branches bearing large peony blossoms issuing from craggy rockwork, with a stem of narcissus beside, framed by a border of stylised lotus and scrolls, the apron and legs decorated with curling grapevines laden with fruits and foliage, all reserved on a red ground, the base lacquered black, Japanese wood box

Condition

There are some expected flaking, cracking and lifting of the lacquer. Some chips and losses to various areas, in particular to the lower edge of the apron. The areas above the apron, and possibly the front sides to some of the scroll feet, may have been retouched.
