Description

seated in dhyanasana on a lotus pedestal rising on a stalk from a hexagonal stand, his hands resting in bhumisparsa and dhyana mudras, his face with contemplative expression, the hem of his garment delicately incised with floral and geometric designs

Provenance

Formerly in an East German private collection, purchased in 1990 (by repute).
Sotheby’s London, 16th May 2007, lot 343.

Condition

The statue is in overall fairly good condition, with some small losses to the hair, expected minor dents and wear to gilding throughout, in particular to the faces, shoulders and hands. There are wears of traces of oxidisation to fingers. The base is slightly bend upwards so created a small gap in-between the stands. The stands comes two parts, sealed with wax to the joint, and there are some areas of losses to the back side of the lotus, the largest measuring approximately 1.5 cm wide.
