Catalogue Note
Perhaps the most important map of the United States published during the first half century of its independence. "This issue incorporates the Lewis and Clark discoveries (and other discoveries) and remaps the entire continent west of the Mississippi. The changes between this and the last edition (1811) are monumental" (Rumsey). In acknowledgement of all of the information furnished to him by their traders and agents in North America, Arrowsmith dedicated this map to the Hudson's Bay Company.
