Catalogue Note

While the clock was made in the town of Newburyport, Massachusetts, the painter of the clock face misspelled the name as Newberyport.  A similar shelf clock by David Wood with an inscribed dial and inlaid crest is in the Diplomatic Reception rooms of the U.S. Department of State (see Conger, p. 231, no. 139).
