The painting bears indecipherable initials and the date 1747 on the right hand side of the canvas.
The painting shows a marked relationship to works by Peter Vanderlyn and Nehemiah Partridge with the members of the family dressed in refined garb, the wife, with a damask gown, the child in red dress holding an elaborate rattle, hung with bells and surmounted by a perched bird. The infant baby with a white gown tied with pink bows. A small brown and white dog in her lap.

Condition
There is evidence of a few old courses of restoration/conservation with at least two layers of darkened varnish obscuring background detail, in and over painting.
