Description

  • ceramics
  • Diameter: 13 5/8 in.
  • 34.6 cm
Painted in the center with a scene depicting five coopers and their apprentice making barrels before a blazing fire within a border decorated with shell and foliage motifs, inscribed and dated on the back MDK / 17: 64.

Condition

There is an extended haircrack running from 4 o'clock to the center; the overspray expands to the adjacent areas, covering most of the surface of the charger. The restoration and touch ups appears to be professionally done, making it difficult to determine, even under black light, whether the charger has been broken or not. There are typical occasional chipping and/or glaze chipping along the rim edges and an approximate 1/2-inch flat chip to the rim edge.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
