Description

  • Portrait of a gentleman, said to be a member of the Orlebar family, seated with a dog at his feet
  • oil on canvas
  • 21 1/4  by 17 1/8  in.; 54 by 43.5 cm.

Condition

The canvas is lined. The painting presents a handsome image underneath a slightly dirty varnish. The paint surface has been slightly pressed as a result of the relining. Inspection under UV reveals some scattered thin strokes of retouching throughout the background, chair and figure. The most prominent spots of retouches are on the darker colors and the sitter's face. The painting is offered in an elaborately carved, gilded frame.
