Condition

Overall very good condition. When viewed in person the screen presents with an even more widely variegated palette compared to the printed catalogue illustration, displaying a range of apple and seafoam greens and golden yellow, accented with vibrant orange. All of the favrile glass in the screen appears original, with approximately 7 hairline cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout. These tiles and approximately 8 additional tiles appear to have been professionally stabilized in the past through the sensitive application of clear epoxy on the reverse of the screen (barely perceivable). The leading is beautifully rendered with refined lines. The hooks on the reverse of the wings appear to be original. The central female figure displays exceptionally fine casting. The gilt bronze surfaces throughout with gentle rubbing and wear to the patina and some very minor surface scratches and abrasions consistent with age and gentle handling. The figure with light surface soiling to the recessed areas of the design. The figure’s right elbow with a small surface irregularity visible in the catalogue illustration, inherent in the making and not visually detractive. The bronze with a few instances of oxidation, including on either side of the figure’s knees (visible in the catalogue illustration), and on either side of the figure on the reverse. With a reproduction gilt metal link chain and hook. This screen has a curvilinear-shaped profile and is not flat as it may appear in the catalogue illustrations. A beautiful example of this iconic model displaying a highly artistic glass selection and a distinctly Art Nouveau sensibility.
