Condition
This work is in original unlined condition. The canvas is buckled in multiple places in the upper left quadrant. The surface is visibly dirty. Stable craquelure is visible on and around the man, on the curtain at upper left and at upper right. There is an upside down 'L' shape of loss on the curtain at upper right. Under UV: the varnish fluoresces green unevenly, and there are streaky areas of heavily applied varnish on the man's shoulders. There is a brushy area of retouching on the left chair arm, and finely applied dashes and dots of retouching in various places on the costumes, faces, and in the background. There are finely painted areas of strengthening around and underneath the woman's proper right arm.
