Condition
Oil on canvas laid down on board. The surface is visibly dirty and there are pinpoint dots of discoloration throughout. There are a few minor dents present in the sky and sea and a small dot of loss at lower right. A finely patterned web of craquelure is visible in the lighter pigments. Frame abrasion with associated discoloration is visible in current framing along the right edge. Under UV: old varnish fluoresces unevenly, which largely impedes a review of the surface; however, there is evidence of older fluorescence (both brushy and linear) in the sky along the left upper edge and a dot of retouching on the back of the rowboat.
