Condition

The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.: This work has been restored and should be hung in its current condition. It is painted on a large panel which is curved from left to right. There is a vertical crack running through the mast of the sailboat which is slightly noticeable at present. It can be seen that the artist used glazes to create to the complex effect of light in the picture throughout the picture, and the work does not seem to be dirty. It has probably never been cleaned, given the extremely good condition in the fish nets and in the delicate touches throughout, particularly on the left side. Some of the original paint reads strongly under ultraviolet light, but there is a restoration in the sail of the model boat directly to the right of the mother's hands, restorations down the vertical crack in the panel, a few spots around the edges, and some dots in the face of the mother. The condition is very good overall.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
