Description

  • A sketch of a head of a dog
  • oil on canvas, unlined
  • 7 1/2  by 9 7/8  in.; 19.1 by 25.1

Condition

The canvas is unlined. Underneath an uneven varnish reads a charming image with some thin craquelure throughout the painting, though mostly concentrated on the dog's head and bottom left of the background. Some paint loss is visible along the edges of the canvas, mostly concentrated on the right side. The dog has some minor losses, most noticeably in the thin vertical scratch on his neck. It is difficult to read any retouches under UV light, though there possibly could be some in the form of inpainting to the craquelure. Some retouching on the losses could help improve the condition of the canvas, though the painting could be ready to hang as is. It is presented in a simple wood frame.
