Description

  • The Madonna Annunziata
  • oil on canvas, unframed
  • 14 by 17 in.; 35.6 by 43.2 cm.

Condition

The canvas is lined. Presents a delicate image beneath an old, discolored varnish with some areas of thinness. There are spots of retouching in her neck and chest visible to the naked eye. There is some paint loss along the upper and lower edge, possibly from when the canvas was relined. Inspection under UV reveals a milky varnish, through which some faint old retouching is possibly visible on the aforementioned retouches in her neck and chest, as well as in her face at her temple and forehead to the left. There may also be some scattered old spots at the center of her hair and in the background, although these are difficult to decipher. Painting is offered unframed, but with a thin wooden support at all edges of the canvas.
