The circular panel is comprised of a single piece of wood that is uncradled with a very slight horizontal bow. Overall, the painting presents well, and retains the blue colors very vividly. Some lifting and very small paint losses, as visible on the catalogue image, are scattered, but mostly present on the center and bottom center of the panel. The lifting runs across the direction of the wood grains, from left to right. We suggest that this be attended to by a professional restorer. Inspection under UV reveal some retouching on Saint Stephen, specifically noticeable throughout his gown, and some scattered strokes on the robe his head rests on. Smaller spots of retouching are scattered on the red robes the female figures wear. The aforementioned lifting of the paint should be stabilized before hanging. The tondo is unframed. In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
