Condition

The panel is flat and comprised of two boards with a join that runs horizontally across the center and is battened on the reverse for support. The join is slightly separated, and this is mostly visible at right. The left side of the panel is beveled. Underneath a thick, discolored varnish, the figures read well and there is in general good retention of the paint surface. Some scattered, small, white marks are visible. Some frame abrasions are on the top right and bottom corner, though they are not too distracting. The aforementioned join fluoresces under the inspection of UV light, and some retouching along the line that extends to the figure's back is visible. Further reading under UV is impeded due to the milky varnish. Painting would benefit from light cleaning and sensitive restoration, which could perhaps make the join less visible to the naked eye. It is offered in a plain wood frame with gold liners.
