Description

  • Follower of Bernardino Luini
  • The Infant Saint John the Baptist
  • oil on panel, unframed
  • 13 3/8  by 12 in.; 34 x 30.5 cm.

Condition

The panel is flat, uncradled, and stabilized with what appears to be a vertical batten. Some thin, horizontal craquelure with some minor associated losses is scattered throughout the panel. Discolored areas of retouches are on the the child's figure, such as in his forehead, arm, and stomach. A thick varnish impedes reading under UV light, though there seems to be some spots of retouches in the bottom left quadrant, particularly on the sheep and arm of the child, and in the background, particularly above his head. The aforementioned craquelure fluoresces. The painting is offered unframed.
