In 1960, Maria Teresa Casuso Ulacia, her husband Laureano, and their three children were forced into exile after great political and social unrest following the ousting of the Batista regime and the rise of Fidel Castro during the Cuban Revolution. Settling her family in Miami and later, Honduras, Maria Teresa lived her life with vigor and purpose, never forgetting her Cuban heritage.
