SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND BROOCH, EARLY 20TH CENTURY

Description

The centre claw-set with a cushion-shaped sapphire weighing approximately 11.40 carats, within a surround of cushion-shaped diamonds. 

Condition

Accompanied by GCS report no. 78157-40, stating that the sapphire measuring approximately 13.8 x 11.4 x 7.8mm, calculated to weigh approximately 11.40 carats, is of Sri Lankan (Ceylon) origin, with no indications of heat treatment. Sapphire light blue, transparent, with typical minor inclusions visible under magnification. Some minor chips to areas of facet edges, likely later re-polished. Diamonds bright and lively, estimated total diamond weight approximately 3.50 - 4.50 carats, estimated to be SI clarity on average, some I1, mixed colour grades, H-J, as graded within the limitations of the mount. Brooch fitting intact, in good working order, soldered in place where previously detachable from brooch, with traces of solder visible. Together with detached insert for mounting at reverse of sapphire applied with blue enamel. Together with case stamped Richard Ogden. Overall dimensions approximately 21 x 26mm, gross weight approximately 10 grams. In good condition.
