Description

Comprising: a necklace of festoon design composed of clusters of cabochon and table-cut garnets, step-cut emeralds and seed pearls within rope twist borders, and bow motifs set with seed pearls and knot motifs applied with black and white enamel, length approximately 380mm, French assay mark; and a pair of pendent ear clips of similar design, one emerald deficient, original fitted case stamped A. Jenant and with the crowned initials M.J. 

Condition

Necklace with French assay marks for silver on clasp loop. Garnets deep red, transparent, with typical inclusions visible under magnification, some surface-reaching, some minor chips to surfaces. Garnets foil-backed. Emeralds light green, transparent, with typical inclusions visible to the naked eye, some surface-reaching, some areas of minor chipping to facet edges, foil backing possibly enhancing colour. Seed pearls white, with green and rose overtones, mixed lustres, some with wear to nacre, general imperfections. Enamel mostly in good condition, some minor chips and losses. Necklace clasp hook and ear clip backs later replacements. Ear clips approximately 48mm long each. Scratches to surfaces consistent with wear. Combined gross weight approximately 135 grams. Box stamped with crowned initials MJ, stamped A. Jenant, Fabrique de Bijoux SS Montagne ... (indistinct).
