Set with an agate cameo depicting Hercules, signed Girometti, within a later pendant mount, the reverse with a glazed compartment.

Condition
Cameo signed Girometti. Agate light brown to white and pale pink, translucent to opaque. Carving overall in good condition, some minor chips to extremities, mostly to lower edge of neck and ear. Mount in good condition, slight dent to border at lower edge. Glass to reverse intact. Cameo measuring approximately 39 x 22mm, overall measurements including mount and pendant fitting approximately 51 x 31mm. Gross weight approximately 21 grams. Light scratches to surfaces consistent with wear. In good condition.

Catalogue Note
An identical cameo of Hercules by Giuseppe Girometti (1780-1850) can be found in the British Museum, collection no. 1996,0608.1. The design is a copy of a Roman Imperial-period intaglio signed Gnaios from the Strozzi collection, also in the British Museum, collection no. 1913,0307.83.
