Catalogue Note

A remarkable collection of images, depicting Guglielmo Marconi, the great Italian inventor

Marconi is best known for his pioneering work on long-distance radio transmission, and the development of a radio telegraph system. He is also credited as the inventor of radio. In 1909, Marconi was presented with the Nobel Prize in Physics, along with Karl Ferdinand Braun, "in recognition of their contributions to the development of wireless telegraphy."  In 1931, he set up the Vatican Radio for Pope Pius XI.
