Catalogue Note

Lucca was Puccini’s home town: he was born there on 22 October 1858. Similar poems by Puccini survive (for example, the sale in these rooms, London, 6 May 1988, lot 451). It was part of his boisterous personality, not unlike the playful bantering students in Acts I and 4 of La Bohème.
