showing the composer three-quarter face, looking left, with greying hair, a large, silk bow-tie and silk-trimmed jacket, by Elliott and Fry, London, inscribed “Dr Edvard Grieg” 6 1/2x4 1/2 inches, laid down on paper mount, [1894 or later]

Catalogue Note

Grieg was a frequent visitor to the United Kingdom and was awarded a doctorate at the University of Cambridge in 1894. This photograph was probably issued around this time. Oxford followed suit in 1906.
