Catalogue Note

Antonio Carlo Gomes was the first composer from South America to achieve fame in Europe, his operas being performed in Milan, Rome and elsewhere. His work was praised by Verdi. Several of these letters are written to Etta Oliveri, the friend of Puccini. Autograph letters by Gomes are extremely rare.
