Paul Kasmin, Claude & François-Xavier Lalanne, New York, 2012, n.p. for a similar stone example
This sculpture is François-Xavier's Lalanne's tribute to two artists who were also his good friends : Constantin Brancusi and Max Ernst. The columnar format references Brancusi's artwork La Colonne sans fin while the owl draws inspiration from Ernst's Le Grand Assistant.
Very good overall condition. The patina presents with some instances of extremely light wear, consistent with age and use. The surface presents with minute white surface stains.
