Catalogue Note

Steinberg was a renowned cartoonist for his years of work at the New Yorker, especially famous for his oft-referenced ‘View from 9th Avenue.’ The present work brings to life more iconic views of New York, showing the Chrysler Building and what appears to be a reimagined Statue of Liberty. His playful style appears simple in form, but closer inspection reveals the intricate line work that makes up the façade of the famous building. Steinberg left no stones unturned in representing the New York that he came to know after decades of living there.
