Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. There is a surface layer of dust and a few scattered accretions, predominantly to the left half of the composition, visible upon close inspection. There are scattered linear surface scratches, predominantly to the center of the composition, visible upon close inspection. There is wear with scattered loss to the artist's frame, predominantly to the corners. Under Ultraviolet light inspection there is no evidence of restoration. Framed in a Plexiglas box.

The authenticity of the present work has been confirmed by Pierre Vasarely, President of the Fondation Vasarely, universal legatee and the moral right holder of Victor Vasarely. This work will be included in the forthcoming ‘Catalogue Raisonné de l’Oeuvre Peint de Victor Vasarely,’ which is currently being compiled by the Fondation Vasarely, Aix-en-Provence. Vasarely worked in Paris after leaving Hungary as a young artist and is credited as one of the fathers of Op Art. The present work comes from a series of paintings titled ‘­Cheyt’ which all use a similar color palette to engage the viewer with an optical illusion.
