Catalogue Note

Most known for his richly painted pies and ice cream cones, Wayne Thiebaud started his career as an illustrator and cartoonist. While the present lot is a departure from his usual subject matter of foodstuffs, the sketched figures are exemplary of his artistic hand. His works on paper and sketches are currently being exhibited at 'Wayne Thiebaud, Draughtsman,' at the Morgan Library, New York. This is the first show to explore many of the artist’s works on paper, including charcoal, pastel, and watercolor drawings.
