Condition

This work is in very good and sound condition overall. All elements are present and stable. The electrical elements are in good working order. There is general wear and tonal and textural shifts to the rawhide, which may be inherent to the medium and do not detract from the sculpture. Catalogue Note

Tim Hawkins, a Los Angeles based multi-media artist, is renowned for turning found objects, such as plastic bags and old socks, into intricate sculptural systems that muse on the perceived separation of nature, machine, the body, and human consciousness. His work often combines mechanical and the natural material, showcasing the differences as well as the similarities within the two mediums. ‘Penitent,’ a motorized skeleton, not only questions our mortality, but also disrupts the perceived separation of machine, body, and being.
