Catalogue Note
"Indiana's huge 'signs' resembling highway directions, which order one to EAT, ERR, or DIE, although they have a slick surface attraction, possess something deep and troubling beneath their road-sign simplicity. The words themselves transmit a psychological and emotional jolt and the artist appears to want them to gnaw into the subconscious and to come to terms with associations, past and present."
