Condition

This work is in very good and sound condition overall. The surface irregularities are inherent to the artist's working method and intent. Glue adhesive is visible throughout, inherent to the artist's working method. The slight yellow tint of the adhesive is most likely the result of the natural aging process for this medium.

Catalogue Note

"With regard to his sculptures, crafted from pieces of wood or marble, assembled with the skill of a true craftsman, they emphatically evoke reality—yet it is a fragile reality, where the seams joining the pieces clearly point to the work of the artist's hands. The pieces are both real and invented, solid and phantasmagorical, accurate and inaccurate representations of their models." Alfonso E. Pérez Sánchez, "Manolo Valdés, Miracle Worker," in Exh. Cat., Madrid, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Manolo Valdés [1981-2006], 2006, p. 42
