Condition

The painted wood panel is in very good condition. The paint on the pinstripe background is tightly bound and in very good condition. A ½” vertical scratch that has been inpainted was noted on the bottom edge of the bottom pinstripe panel. One of the nails used in its construction appears to be pushing up the paint on a small area on the upper panel causing the paint to crack slightly. A faint patterned mark was noted on the PR side of both pinstriped panels and on both sides of the outer panel. No cracks or dimensional movement in the wood was observed. All of the painted metal T-shaped rods are present and move in their place. No damage or significant loss was detected on the panel. Catalogue Note

"Soto's most important contribution could actually be, beyond the material and media he uses, the aesthetic stimulus experienced by facing unexpected constructions of...metal rods; overall, the materialization of space and its use as an artistic element, as if it were a canvas, wood or marble."  Alfredo Boulton in Exh. Cat., Kamakura Museum of Art, Soto, 1990, p. XV
