Catalogue Note

"I am a child of American suburbs. I would fantasize about the wilderness and I would watch films like King Kong, projecting myself into the story. My personal fantasy world that I built up in my head had to do with being in wild places.

Mostly, I would climb a tree to get away from my father who was a bit of a bully. This tree was the only wilderness that I could find in the suburban setting...When you are on top of a very large, old tree, nobody can find you. The birds would fly by, and you could sit there for hours. So when I started this work, my childhood memories resonated in a personal way."
