Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. There is evidence of extremely faint surface scratches within the white background passaged, only visible upon close inspection in certain raking light and most likely inherent to the artist's working method. There is evidence of faint surface smudges along the edges of the canvas from previous handling, most noticeable at the top left corner as well as a slight impression from the stretcher bar in the bottom right corner. Under Ultraviolet light inspection, there is no evidence of restoration.

Catalogue Note

"The most important issue, however, is perhaps not the battle between organic growth and inorganic geometry, but Orozco's stance against the vanishing point, which he sees as the anchor of a painterly way of thinking, a pictorial code, remnant of the past, from which he is intent, if not wholly cut loose his painting, at least to give it some slack."
