Condition

151 James Rosenquist Wild West World This work is in very good condition overall. There is light evidence of wear and handling to the edges, including light surface soiling and a minor horizontal discolored abrasion with associated loss along the lower edge towards the left. The colors are bright, fresh and clean. Under very close inspection, two pinpoint brown spot accretions are visible below the left hand and one in the upper left corner, dry cracking is visible in some of the more thickly painted yellow areas. Under raking light, some of the inherent outward protrusions exhibit minor burnishing. Under Ultraviolet light, the aforementioned horizontal abrasion fluoresces and appears to have benefited from light retouching. Framed.

Catalogue Note

"For me, things have to be life-size or larger. I believe it is possible to bring something so close that you can see through it, so it comes to you right off the wall. I like to bring things into unexpected immediacy – as if someone thrust something right next to your face – a beer bottle or his shirt cuff – and said, 'How do you like it?'"
