Close inspection reveals some very faint tension cracks to all four extreme overturn edges and some spots of light wear to all four extreme corner tips. Inspection under raking light reveals some faint stretcher bar marks. Further very close inspection reveals a few faint and short cracks in isolated places. There are three tiny spots of media; one towards the upper centre of the left hand edge, one towards the lower centre of the left hand edge and one towards the bottom left corner tip, which fluoresce lightly when examined under ultra-violet light. There is a hairline diagonal scratch towards the right edge. No restoration is apparent when examined under ultra violet light.

Catalogue Note
"Warhol reduced and radicalised his Flowers to such an extent that the banal subject matter was now transformed into a powerful pictorial concept. The directionless format contributed to this: the pictures can be read in all directions; like an abstract painting, top and bottom, left and right, have been revoked" (Nina Zimmer cited in: Exh. Cat., Basel, Kunstmuseum, Andy Warhol: The Early Sixties – Paintings and Drawings 1961-1964, 2011, p. 177).
