Description

  • 48cm. 18in. high
5-inch enamel dial signed Lemerle-Charpentier & Cie, Bronziers, 8, Rue Charlot, Paris, the similarly signed movement with Brocot escapement and striking on a bell, the rectangular case with pineapple finials and with floral and mask mounts, the moulded base inset with ribbon-tied laurel

Condition

Dial in generally very good condition, some minor losses to gilt stars. Movement is clean and running at time of cataloguing but may benefit from fresh oil, bell and hammer detached but we have them. Case in generally good condition throughout with some old marks and scuffs to the gilding, rear panel was originally hinged but is now held by two pins and a spring catch. With pendulum and winder.

Charpentier & Cie is recorded at 8, Rue Charlot, Paris in 1860, and was later known as Lemerle-Charpentier & Cie from circa 1870 to 1890. They exhibited mantel clocks, garnitures, torchères and vases at the Exposition Universelle of 1878 in Paris.
