Provenance

Property from the Estate of Annette M. Schieffelin;
Christie's New York, Arts of France, 21 October 1997, lot 234 ($20,700).

Condition

Overall in country house condition. The upholstery is tired and worn with numerous splits, notably to the seat cushion and reverse of backrest, as visible in the catalogue image. The frame is sound and sturdy with typical but slight movement along construction joints. Evidence of old worm to seat rails, which no longer appears to be active. Painted surface probably later and with typical signs of wear including rubbing to arms and scuffs to legs entirely consistent with age and use. One patera missing on the front seat rail.
