Description

  • 142cm. high, 103cm. wide, 42cm. deep; 56in., 40½in., 16½in.
three frieze drawers with gilt metal mounts, above a central door with a broken pediment with two plaques, one depicting Diana, the smaller, of a soldier, opening to reveal two long and six short drawers, flanked on either side by two long drawers, all with engraved ivory scenes inlaid on tortoiseshell, sides with carrying handles, on a later stand

Condition

Generally in reasonable condition. Metalwork later. One metal bracket to top frieze on left side is missing. Two metal mounts missing on top frieze in the front. Tortoiseshell surface with signs of restorations, notably visible to the left panel of the second drawer on the right handside of the central door, to the right panel of the drawer below the central door, and to the left panel of the second drawer on the left handside of the central door. Missing statuettes flanking the top of the broken pediment of central door. Losses to ivory throughout. Where parts of ivory missing, they have been occasionally refilled and engraved simulating the original design. Shrinking cracks to both sides. Behind door: two metal mounts to corners of bottom drawers missing, scuffs and rubbing to handles, two handles replaced. Top replaced as well as backboard. The later stand with small losses to veneer on upper frieze, feet scuffed and marks and scratches. One key. cabinet: 67cm high, 101cm wide, 39cm deep stand: 75cm high, 103cm wide, 42cm deep
