Catalogue Note

Linke is arguably one of the best French late 19th century ebenistes producing models in historic styles and these cabinets seem very much in his manner this comparison is based upon a desk illustrated by Christopher Payne, Francois Linke 1855-1946, Woodbridge, 2003, p.36, with similar mounts, in vernis martin and also unsigned. Certainly the quality of the present cabinets suggest a maker of some standing.
