Description

elephant ivory ; on an ebonised wooden base with brass inlaid elements

Condition

In overall fairly good condition with surface dirt consistent with age and handling. There are a few horizontal fissures in several places consistent with the material, notably on the proper left of the dog, and minor cracking to the ivory. A small loss visible to its proper left ear and traces of white paint are visible on its proper left side. This ivory dog was probably the handle of a hunting casket. The later wooden base is in very good condition.
