Description

  • 204 x 53 cm ; 80 3/8 x 20 7/8 in. (each panel)
boldly carved on one side with a pair of deer resting in an idyllic landscape setting next to elaborate rockwork and surrounded by flowering prunus, bamboo and pine trees on a monochromatic ivory background, one panel with a poetic inscription dated to the 22nd year of Kangxi corresponding to 1684, the reverse not carved 

Condition

Extensive areas of restoration and repainting along the lower parts of each panel, along the edges of each panel, cracks through the lacquer along the joints of the underlying wood structure, along the edges, particularly to the lower right hand side. Some overall losses to the lacquer. (The screen is divided in two parts of three panels each).
